Derby Schools Loose Top Administrators

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

With the prior school year at a close and a new school year soon to begin, the Derby Public Schools has had a rash of resignations among their top administrative positions. The Superintendent resigned in mid year and has been replaced. the High School Principal, Dean of Students at the High School and Assistant Superintendent have all resigned as well. The new Superintendent hopes to hire a new Principal before the end of August. In addition to these administrative positions a number of teachers in the district resigned to take positions in other districts or took advantage of early retirement options provided by the Board of Education, a trend that has been on going for a number of years now.A number of questions come to mind.

What would you like to see in a new High School Principal?

Do we need to replace the Assistant Superintendent and Dean of Students or would the money be better spent in some other way?

Why has the district lost so many administrators and teachers to other opportunities in recent years and what if anything can be done to shut what appears to be a revolving door of educational opportunism?
