BRADLEY PLAYGROUND --- WHY ON EARTH DID THEY DO THAT?
Rumor has it that our "acting" superintendent decided to pull up $6000 worth of rubberized mulch over this past spring vacation, then the subletted company then proceeded to spend who knows how much ($3500 maybe) on wood mulch over a larger area. Now this regular wood mulch will possibly have to be redone every year, whereas the rubber mulch should have lasted 30 years. GUESS WHAT THE KICKER IS?? THE RUBBER MULCH IS GONE!! Can anyone explain, to the parents that volunteered their time and money to get the playground going again, where their money has gone and all their time?? Thanks a lot! We just love wasting our own money every year in unnecessary taxes

I also wish it was that easy, to 'just take the property', but it doesn't work that way. There is an excellent chance that there WILL be a battle...a very long and costly battle. The city (or developer) must go 'over the limit' to purchase these properties and finally commence Derby's 'rebirth'

Eminent Domain is nothing but a tool. Currently our city has to move forward. The City should use eminent domain if the intransigence of these few people keep holding up the process. Since Tony got in he has done wonders but he has tried to hard to be a gentleman. For the sake of all the City it should be fair offer and if refused again take the property. New London does not apply here because the New London action was homes not businesses. I attended many of the Aldermanic meetings and I listened to the rights of 3 people and not the rights of the 13,000 others that have been waiting for progress enough is enough. The Constitution that everybody quotes says "pursuit of happiness" not guaranteed happines !

A quick comment about the city's 'possible' use of eminen domain for the downtown project...don't. It not only opens the door to an extended litigation in the courts for years and years, but it's also more than likely to cost much more (see New London's closure) than paying 'more' for it now.

It is a pleasure finally seeing people that I grew up with or know finally running the city of Derby.
I remember Mayor Stafferi (even though we don't know each other) when he was a teenager. I think that it's great to see people that attended the same schools as I was in now trying to improve the city.
Derby people are different. They do have alot of pride even when they are up against the odds.
I know that all the newly elected officials will do they're best. They have followed alot of other's who have tried and done they're best as well.

I am willing to give this another try...I hope that this blog stays focused on what is truly important and pertinent so that it can accomplish it's intention of complimenting current city government (regardless of political affilitiation).

I believe we can create an environment on this site that will encourage people to participate without being judged and/or criticized. I'm looking forward to doing my part to make this city great again!
